常见问题

Does it handle multi-page TIFFs?

Yes. Every page (IFD) inside a TIFF becomes a separate PDF page, so a 10-page fax file gives a 10-page PDF without splitting it first. Pages from several TIFF files are appended in list order into one document.

Which TIFF variants are supported?

Grayscale and RGB images at 8, 16, or 32 bits per channel, with or without an alpha channel, stored uncompressed or with LZW or Deflate compression. TIFFs using CCITT Group 3 or 4 fax compression, PackBits, or JPEG compression can't be decoded; re-save those as uncompressed or LZW TIFF in an image editor first.

What do the quality options do?

High stores each page as lossless PNG, keeping every pixel. Medium and Low re-encode pages as JPEG at 75% and 50% quality, which is much smaller for scanned photos but can blur fine text. Pixel dimensions stay the same in all three.

What page size does a converted TIFF get?

The page is sized to the pixel dimensions at one point per pixel, and the TIFF's own DPI tag is ignored. A 300 DPI Letter scan of 2550 by 3300 pixels therefore becomes a page about 35 by 46 inches; run the result through Fix Page Size to get true Letter or A4 pages.

Will the PDF be searchable?

No. Scanned TIFFs are images, and the PDF contains the same images with no text layer. Run the output through OCR PDF to make it searchable and copyable.

What happens with 16-bit or floating-point images?

They're reduced to 8 bits per channel for the PDF, so medical or scientific TIFFs lose their extended range. WhiteIsZero grayscale files are inverted correctly so black stays black.

Why does a large TIFF take so long or fail?

The whole file is decoded into browser memory and each page is expanded to raw pixels before being re-encoded. Files of several hundred megabytes can exhaust that memory, so split very large TIFFs or convert them a few at a time.

Are my scans uploaded?

No. The TIFF is decoded with a JavaScript decoder in your browser and the PDF is assembled locally, so medical images or confidential faxes never leave your device.
